Podiatric biomechanics service, part of the Foot Health Services, is available to patients referred by their GP, Consultant, Physiotherapist, Podiatrist, Occupational Therapist, Nurse Practitioner, Practice Nurse, or other health professional.

We provide biomechanical assessments of the lower limb and treatments of a mechanical and physical nature. The service is offered to adults over 16 years of age who have a lower limb pathology related to their foot function, structure and gait.

Current Pathway:

  • Triage of all referrals to ensure that patients are seen at the right time and place with onward referral of patients who do not fit the inclusion criteria
  • Clinical assessment appointments to assess, diagnose and initiate the appropriate treatment plans
  • Clinical assessments will be undertaken either face to face or using Attend Anywhere video facility
  • Treatment plans include the provision of prescribe foot and ankle orthosis, rehabilitation exercise programmes and patient education
  • Patient education is fundamental to our patient management to improve outcomes by way of understanding their diagnosis, promoting self help and thereby improving compliance and hence outcomes.
  • Follow up and review appointments can be face to face, telephone or Attend Anywhere video consultations

Patients can purchase extra pairs of prescribed orthotics for their convenience.

Referral Procedure: To use this service, you will need to be referred by a health professional. This means you must see your doctor or nurse They will send your details to a service. Your doctor or nurse will refer you to the service that is the most suitable for your health needs. The service will then contact you to make an appointment or explain what will happen next.
How Service is Delivered: Outpatient clinics at Norwich Community Hospital
Opening Times: Monday to Friday, 8.15 a.m - 5 p.m. An answerphone is available at other times.
Parking and Transport: Onsite parking available; limited availability of spaces at peak times.

Parking fees: 20 mins free; up to 2 hours £1.50; up to 3 hours £2.00; up to 4 hours £3.00; up to 6 hours £4.00; up to 8 hours £10.00. Car registration required for input.

Disabled access; disabled spaces available, tarmacadam surface construction of car park.

Site accessible by public and / or community transport.
Access and Facilities: Main entrance and toilet facilities are well signposted and wheelchair accessible.
Compliments / Complaints: The Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) can listen to your issues, concerns, compliments or suggestions, resolve problems where possible, and feed back to services to aid service development.
