The Adult Speech and Language Therapy Service based at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, King’s Lynn aims to enable patients to communicate to the best of their ability through assessment, treatment and providing advice and support. We also help patients to swallow as safely and effectively as possible. This may include modifying the textures of food and drink to make them easier to swallow or working with medical professionals to provide recommendations about alternatives if a patient cannot safely swallow food and drink.
Speech and Language Therapists are part of a multi-disciplinary team and work closely with other professionals such as, Doctors, Nursing Staff, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists and Dieticians.
Outpatients, apart from those with voice disorders, head and neck cancer or following a stroke are seen by the Community Speech and Language Therapists based at St James Clinic, King's Lynn.
Once the initial assessment has been completed, which may take several appointments, there will be time to discuss ways in which you and your therapist can work together. This may be in a variety of different ways, which may include:
- Advice to yourself
- Advice to other members of your family involved in your daily life and/or other professionals involved in your care
- A course of individual therapy
- Onward referral to others.
Home visits can be provided by this service in specific circumstances.
Interpretation and translation services can be arranged by staff, for users of this service.
Information leaflets about the outpatient voice service including on Attend Anywhere are available.
