The Adult Epilepsy Specialist Nurse (ESN) service supports and looks after patients with epilepsy. They create care plans for patients with epilepsy to make sure they look after themselves and have a plan in case of emergencies.

They can also give advice, information and training for the patient and their family, and help the patient learn about their triggers, lifestyle and medication.

Interpretation and translation services can be arranged by staff, for users of this service.

Referral Procedure: To use this service, you will need to be referred by a health professional, with a confirmed diagnosis of epilepsy This means you must see your doctor or nurse they will send your details to a service. Your doctor or nurse will refer you to the service that is the most suitable for your health needs. The service will then contact you to make an appointment or explain what will happen next.
How Service is Delivered: We see patients in a range of settings:
  • Home visit
  • Residential home
  • Telephone contact
  • Virtual via Attend Anywhere
Opening Times: Telephone lines available Mon-Fri, 08.30 – 16.30
Special Educational Needs Transition: Through a nurse led transition clinic with the children’s Epilepsy Specialist Nurse team from the age of 16 years old.
Compliments / Complaints: The Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) can listen to your issues, concerns, compliments or suggestions, resolve problems where possible, and feed back to services to aid service development.
