The Rowan Centre provides nurse and therapy led care for people who have life limiting illnesses such as cancer, neurological conditions and progressive/enduring heart, respiratory, renal and liver disease.
The service is a Day Service, where patients attend therapy-led sessions with the aim of empowering the individual to self manage and harness their quality of life and wellbeing wherever possible.
The Rowan Centre is a specialist palliative care therapeutic centre, offering 6 therapeutic group sessions, 3 hrs long for 8 weeks. Sessions aim to empower patients to self-manage their life limiting illness through MDT and peer support. Patients are allocated a key worker who will review their progress during each session.
- Art and Craft Group – offers support through group art and craft activities.
- Physical Exercise Group – physiotherapy led exercise to improve strength and balance.
- The Rowan Programme – MDT discussion and support related to: advance care planning; nutrition; exercise; complementary therapy; spiritual, social and financial support.
- Creative Therapy Group – psychological support through; music, poetry and literature
- Room to Relax Group – techniques to improve anxiety through relaxation and wellbeing
- Breathlessness Group – 4-week group to support breathlessness and anxieties.
We recognise that life limiting illness impacts upon all members of the family and carers unit and our service offers support utilising the skills and expertise of the multi-disciplinary team and the services they offer.
The Rowan Centre can also provide some intravenous treatments to help manage symptoms such as Blood transfusions. These treatments are provided as a nurse led service and monitored regularly to evaluate clinical benefit.
Patients and their families can attend the Out-Patient Service to meet with the multi-disciplinary team which includes the Doctors, Nurses, Psychological Therapists, Complimentary Therapist, Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists.
Interpretation and translation services can be arranged by staff, for users of this service.
Patient information leaflets will be provided by the Rowan Centre team as appropriate to the therapeutic session attended.
