The Department of Nutrition and Dietetics provides dietetic and nutritional advice to staff, patients and carers for the dietary management of disease and the promotion of health. Following a dietary assessment, the Dietitian will recommend dietary modifications to help the individual meet their nutritional requirements.

  • Inpatient and outpatient services at community hospitals
  • Outpatient services at a number of health centres and GP practices
  • Group education sessions for some patients
  • Advice and training for healthcare professionals and catering staff
  • Advice and training for people with learning disabilities, carers and professionals

Interpretation and translation services can be arranged by staff, for users of this service.

Home visits are provided by this service for those patients who are unable to travel due to immobility and / or ill health.

Referral Procedure: Referral via any registered health care professional
Please Note - care home staff should make referrals via their GP practice
How Service is Delivered: The service is delivered in community hospitals (inpatient and outpatient services), outpatient clinics in community locations e.g. health centres / GP surgeries, home visits (including care homes) and in groups.
Opening Times: Monday to Friday 08:30 - 16:30
Parking and Transport: Variable onsite parking. Accessible by public transport.
Access and Facilities: Accessible main entrance. Lift and toilet facilities are well signposted and wheelchair accessible.
Special Educational Needs Accessible: This service does not see children under 16 nor children who remain under the care of a paediatric consultant nor young people still in full time education in specialist schools.
Staff receive regular training on the use of ramp, tray and hoist scales, along with yearly updates on the use of eternal feeding pumps and equipment. Communication is carried out by a range of methods such as email, telephone, written, face to face and the use of communication aids if required. Nutrition and Dietetic department / PALS / NCHC Complaints department.
Special Educational Needs Transition: There is a transition process for paeds home enteral feeds patients to be added over by their dietitian to the dietitians in the adult home feeds team.
Compliments / Complaints: The Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) can listen to your issues, concerns, compliments or suggestions, resolve problems where possible, and feed back to services to aid service development.
