The service is offered to children 0-18 years of age (or 19 yrs if in special education), who have physical problems affecting their motor development or physical well being. Assessment and treatment is from registered therapists specialising in paediatric physiotherapy and occupational therapy.<br /> <br /> The Physiotherapy team consist of fully qualified chartered state registered physiotherapists who have specialist knowledge of children's conditions, normal growth and physical development. highly trained Therapy technicians who provide treatment and equipment reviews.<br /> <br /> Referrals are accepted for children aged 0-18yrs (or 12 if solely a musculoskeletal problem; or 19yrs if in special education), with identified or suspected motor, neurological or developmental problems, to enable them to achieve optimal health and wellbeing, and to access and participate in the world around them. Treatment may come in the form of handling and positioning advice, development of a home exercise / management programme, therapy sessions or provision of specialist equipment.<br /> <br /> The Paediatric Occupational Therapy service consists of fully qualified state registered occupational therapists who have specialist knowledge of children's conditions and development. The service provides assessment advice, therapeutic interventions and equipment for children who have a complex, severe or long term physical and/or developmental condition which significantly interferes with their ability to achieve their potential to access education, play and personal care activities within daily life. Highly trained therapy technicians support within the occupational therapy service.<br /> <br /> The Occupational Therapist will assess the baby, child or young person in order to discover and understand the difficulties they face. They will support the individual, their family and other relevant people such as teachers, in enabling the individual to carry out daily activities. This may include suggesting alternative ways of doing things, providing advice on learning new approaches and techniques, or making changes to the environment, for example, through the use of equipment or adaptations.<br /> <br /> Highly trained therapy technicians provide treatment and equipment reviews supporting both qualified physiotherapists and occupational therapists.<br /> <br /> Children are seen at the Newberry Child Development Centre in Gorleston, school, nursery and clinics. In some circumstances children are also seen at home or at mainstream school depending on their need. A service is provided for the neonatal ward, post-natal wards and children's ward at the James Paget University Hospital.<br /> <br /> Interpretation and translation services can be arranged by staff, for users of this service.<br /> <br /> Home visits can be provided by this service in specific circumstances.
