Cromer's Minor Injuries Unit (MIU) is run by experienced emergency nurse practitioners who can independently see and treat all forms of minor injury. The department sees around 9,500-10,000 patients a year with a heavier workload in the summer months due to a tourist population increase. Cromer's MIU sees patients over 2 years with: * Minor head injuries (with no loss of consciousness) * Simple wounds - Simple eye conditions, foreign body, corneal abrasions, arc eye * Minor burns * Soft tissue injury - bites and stings with no associated complications or acute reaction * Simple fractures
NB: There is a limited ability to see patients under 2 years, but this is at the discretion of the practitioners on duty and is reserved for uncomplicated cases that do not need specific paediatric specialist knowledge. Ringing for advice is encouraged before attending.
